Former Ojai Valley resident has designs on gala catwalk

Designs by former Ojai Valley resident Dominique Pearl David, who early this year came in third in the Bravo reality TV series “The Fashion Show: Ultimate Collection,” will be featured this weekend at a fashion gala in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

David, a 2007 graduate of Nordhoff High School, will join fellow “Fashion Show” competitor Cesar Galindo in showing designs Saturday on the “Global Glamour” catwalk. Also showing collections will be American designers Tracy Reese and Devon Scott, British designer Andrew Buckler and emerging Virgin Islands designer Jamal Drummond and Andre Etienne.

Models will include Jourdan Dunn, who worked with the late Alexander McQueen and who has appeared on the covers of Vogue and British Vogue.

Dubbed Summer Sizzle VI, the four-day event includes fashion shows, sailing excursions and island tours as a way to promote the Virgin Islands. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the United Way of St. Thomas/St. John.

David has been working with Galindo, who came in fourth on “The Fashion Show,” since even before the series finale aired in January.

She surprised her parents, Galen and Maria David of Oak View, by showing up announced at their finale viewing party, then got on a plane headed for New York less than four hours later to join Galindo in completing designs for Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. line in time for Fashion Week.

David will debut her 2012 resort collection, which she is calling The Nightingale, at Summer Sizzle VI. She plans to post photos via her Twitter and Facebook accounts, which she maintains under the name Dominique Pearl.
